A man known only as Shanmuganathan is receiving a Public Spiritedness Award from the Singaporean government after he was caught on video rescuing a screaming toddler who was hanging from the edge of a balcony from a possibly fatal height.
According to The Strait Times, the man was working on road reparations on a nearby street when he noticed the commotion and sprung into action.
No one knows for sure how the young child managed to end up hanging from the edge of the balcony with her head stuck between two rails, and by the time the firefighters arrived five minutes later after receiving an emergency call, the worker had already managed to free the three-year-old and bring her down to ground level.
Two others had previously tried to get up to the baby’s level but not been able to, and someone had already ran upstairs to bang on the door but nobody had answered.
Another man can also be seen helping his coworker and the baby get down from the second level using a ladder.
What do you think of this man’s heroic efforts? Watch the 2-part video below.
